Demand an End to Australia's "Dangerous Alliance."

The great majority of people outside the US regard the United States as the greatest threat to world peace, yet we are tied to this country in a myriad ways. The bonds are growing tighter by the day, for example, Pine Gap is now used to target drone attacks in the Middle East. Australians have long believed that our country is indefensible, and we can only guarantee our safety by tying ourselves to a "Great Power." However, former PM Malcolm Fraser argued that the US is now a "Dangerous Ally." The alliance is costing us dearly and we have no guarantee the US will ever assist us in an emergency. The ANZUS Treaty commits them to no more than "Consultations" in the event of a crisis.

The current crop of contenders for the Republican presidential nomination are the most extreme in that country's history. They are frightening and inexperienced, and their only answer to international problems is more bombing, more aggression, more war. This is not in our interest.

In the event any one of them gains the nomination, we need to declare ourselves neutral and end any and all military alliances with any and all countries except those in our immediate neighbourhood. Anything else invites trouble
